Week 11

1.  What did you do in lab today?

This week in lab we learned about the law of superposition and the fact that the deep you go into the earth the older that layers are. The activity that we did was taking different types of sand, looked at it under a microscope, and guessed where we thought it was from based on the characteristics. We had to see if we lot it was by water, wind, etc.

2. What was the big question?

How can we tell the different types of erosion?

3. What did you learn in Thursday's discussion?

In lecture this week the big idea that we learned about was Archimedes Principle. We first learned about the history, and then moved onto an activity of putting different cans in a bucket of water. This helped to show us bouncy and how to find specific gravity and how that can help us see if geodes are hollow or not.

4. Textbook:
  • What did you learn?
One thing that I learned was how the different types of rocks are formed. I kinda knew the types, but I had no idea the specifics of how they were made by heat and pressure and stuff.
  • What was most helpful?
I really liked the diagram with the arrows and how they can be changed and that they can change into each other.
  • What do you need more information on?
I would like more information on how chemical erosion can happen.

5. What questions, comments, and/or concerns do you have?

A little off topic, but how do rocks get their color?
