Week 10
1. What did you do in lab today?
This week in lab we learned more about rocks and how they are formed. We did a really fun activity to create rocks with Starburst. We made igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks by heating up different Starbursts together, smashing them, changing the temp, and how much it was melted.
2. What was the big question?
Big questions: - what is a rock? - what are the layers of the earth? - why do plates move?
3. What did you learn in Thursday's discussion?
In lecture this week we focused a lot on the different layers of the earth, like its a hard boiled egg. We also discussed the movement of plate tectonics and how those are related to volcanoes and earthquakes based on the type of movement that is happening. We also learned about the different types of erosion.
4. Textbook: - What did you learn?
One thing that I learned from the reading this week was that there is a difference between continental and oceanic plates. In my mind they would be the same, but I learned that the ocean plates are a lot deeper, which makes them a lot thinner. - What was most helpful?
One thing that I found that was very in this chapter was the map of the earth and the different plates and where they are located. - What do you need more information on?
I would like to get more information on the different types of ways that volcanoes are formed.
5. What questions, comments, and/or concerns do you have?
Earthquakes in Iowa?
