Week 3

  •  The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did
The big question that we addressed in lab this week ties back into the information about slides we have been learning about. In our groups we were told to conduct an investigation into one of the variables that affects the speed of someone on a slide. Monet and I decided to investigate how the slope can determine speed. For this experiment we took our "slide" and put it at high, medium, and low heights (the higher the slide the bigger the slope). We then took a toy car and timed how long it took for it to slide down. We tested the heights three times each and then found the average speed. From this information, we came to the conclusion we were already expecting, the higher the slope the faster the speed.
  • A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture.
This week in lecture we discussed the variables we tested when investigating the speed on a slide in lab. We talked about height, slope, surface, and weight. We then moved into talking about force, friction, and the rate at which things fall.
  • Answer questions about the weekly textbook reading:

                            - What did you learn?

From this chapter I learned about Newtons three laws, and how force and friction go into determining the movement, or lack-there-of, of objects

                            - What was most helpful?

I think that the most helpful part of this chapter was all of the information and separation on the different Newton's laws. It was really helpful to learn about them in separate sections and seeing them build off of each other.

                            - What do you need more information on?

I would really like more information on how we can effectively teach this information to students without confusing/stressing them out, but still in a way that is still challenging and engaging. This topics can even get confusing for me, so I would love to learn more about how we will take this and turn it into a suitable topic for littles.

                            - What questions/concerns/comments do you have?

I don't have any questions or concerns. It was just nice to get a refresher on this topic after learning so much about it in high school.
